With the summer tourist season over, the canals are blissfully quiet.
This is particularly appealing to novice boaters, who can practice their fledgling navigation skills in peace.
Our narrowboat Alouette is exceptionally well insulated, with full central heating. We supply a warm duvet and lots of extra blankets just in case, too.
Waterfront pubs and eateries nestle the stunning Cambridgeshire landscape, with log fires to welcome you.
Back on board, there’s a full kitchen if you enjoy self-catering so that whatever the weather, you can make the most of your break.
Ultimate private getaway
Of course, in mid-winter there is a small chance that the river itself may freeze over and our lower pricing reflects this risk.
If this is so bad that you are unable to leave the mooring, then you are still very welcome to use the boat as a retreat, knowing that you really will be enjoying the ultimate secluded getaway! Depending on where the boat is to boarded will depend on where it may have to stay.
River closures
The Environment agency organises a programme of works from November to March, which sometimes results in river restrictions or closures. Also water levels can cause further restrictions. Thes is obviously out of our hands and the reduced hire price at this time of year reflects this.
However, we have a variety of choices when it comes to possible routes and we will always help you choose the best option. If long periods of travel are not possible, you are very welcome to use the boat as a static base for some of your holiday on the riverside.
